Deutsch: Beschlossen vom Kreistag am 21. Februar 1973 und genehmigt durch Schreiben der Regierung von Niederbayern vom 19. Oktober 1973.
Das Landkreiswappen vereint Symbole aus den früheren Wappen der Landkreise Pfarrkirchen und Eggenfelden, die mit Teilen der früheren Landkreise Griesbach i. Rottal und Vilsbiburg seit 1972 den Landkreis Rottal-Inn mit Sitz des Landratsamtes in Pfarrkirchen bilden. Aus dem Eggenfelder Landkreiswappen stammt der rote Panterrumpf als Sinnbild für die frühe Herrschaftsgeschichte des Rottals. Der Panter wurde als Wappentier der 1248 ausgestorbenen pfalzgräflichen Linie der spanheimischen Grafen von Kraiburg-Ortenburg übernommen, die seit dem 12. Jahrhundert im Rottal reich begütert waren und bis zu ihrem Aussterben 1260 das herrschende Adelsgeschlecht waren. Unter der Rechtsnachfolge der wittelsbachischen Herzöge wurde die Verwaltung im „Viztumamt an der Rott“ mit Sitz in Pfarrkirchen organisiert. Das rote Pferd, Hauptfigur des bis 1972 geltenden Landkreiswappens von Pfarrkirchen, weist auf die bedeutende Rottaler Pferdezucht und Landwirtschaft hin. Das Rottal ist auch ein Zentrum des Pferdesports; 1896 wurde in Pfarrkirchen die erste süddeutsche Trabrennbahn in Betrieb genommen. Der Wellenbalken, ebenfalls aus dem Pfarrkirchener Wappen, versinnbildlicht die geografische Lage des Landkreises an den Flüssen Rott und Inn und redet zugleich für den Namen des alten Viztumamtes ebenso wie für den Namen des heutigen Landkreises.[1]
