Deutsch: Das Wappen des Landes Vorarlberg geht auf das Wappen der Pfalzgrafen von Tübingen zurück, die als Zeichen ihrer pfalzgräflichen Gewalt bereits vor 1200 eine rote Fahne, die als Gerichtsfahne gedeutet wird, in goldenem Schild führten.
Dieses Wappen ging auf die Grafen von Montfort, eine Seitenlinie der Tübinger, über, zur Unterscheidung jedoch in silbernem Schild. Da die Montforter im Mittelalter über weite Teile Vorarlbergs geboten, wurde ihr Wappen als Herzschild in das erste Vorarlberger Landeswappen (verliehen 1863 von Kaiser Franz Josef nach einem Entwurf des Historikers Josef Bergmann) integriert. Seit 1918 führt das Land Vorarlberg nur noch die rote Fahne der Grafen Montfort in silbernem Schild. |
