Subject to Prevailing winds from the West, coupled with Southern winds from North Africa, the White Mountain Range (Lefka Ori) pictured here demonstrates how the topography of Western Crete varies. This includes different micro and macro climate areas - as major weather systems collide at higher elevations and create different habitat zones that blanket through the surrounding regions and help account for the diverse fauna and flora found throughout the Hania province - including Endemic species of over 1000 plants unique to the island. |
