Summary
DescriptionThe Very Large Array, New Mexico.jpg |
English: Some elements of the Very Large Array are visible in this image, at bottom center. Outside the black outline of the Cibola National Forest and with its center on a light patch below the more readily visible dark line of Highway 60, several faint lines are arranged in an inverted Y shape. The Y shape is punctuated in places by white dots: the radio dishes. With a diameter of 25 meters, the dishes are slightly smaller than the resolution of Landsat 7 (image pixels are 30 meters by 30 meters), but they show up in the image because their bright white surfaces make such a sharp contrast to the dark ground around them. When this image was taken, the VLA was spread out in its widest configuration. |
