Photographed 2008-03-08 by Mike Hofmann from the rear balcony of the South End Rowing Club, 500 Jefferson St, San Francisco. Ships from left to right: "Balclutha" (square-rigged sailing ship), "Eppleton Hall" (paddlewheel tug with white smokestack), "Hercules" (steam tug with red smokestack) "C. A. Thayer" (schooner in renovation) and "Eureka" (steam ferry boat with black smokestack). The main mast of the scow schooner, "Alma" can be seen beyond the "Hercules" smokestack. Alcatraz Island is on the horizon in the right of the photo, beyond the Hype St. Pier sign.
