English: Hanwell: Wharncliffe Viaduct This classic Brunel-designed viaduct was built in 1838 to take the Great Western Railway over the valley of the River Brent. Lord Wharncliffe was chairman of the Great Western Railway and his coat of arms is visible on the right-hand pier in the photo. A westbound First Great Western express is heading out from Paddington.
