English: Scanned page of the Babylonian w:Talmud, showing the first page of the first tractate, Daf "Bet" (folio 2a) of Masechet (Tractate) Brachot. The center column contains the Talmud text, beginning with a section of w:Mishnah. The w:Gemara begins 14 lines down with the abbreviation גמ (gimmel-mem) in larger type. Mishnah and Gemara sections alternate throughout the Talmud text. The blocks of text on either side are the w:Rashi and w:Tosafot commentaries, printed in w:Rashi script. The Rashi is always on the side of the page closest to the binding. Other notes and cross references are in the margins. |
