Der Innenminister des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen hat durch Urkunde vom 02.06.1955 der damaligen Gemeinde Ennigerloh das Recht zur Führung eines Wappens und Siegels verliehen. Das Wappen bezieht sich durch die Schildfarbe Grün auf die zweite Hälfte des Ortsnamens - "Loh" bedeutet Wald. Die Muscheln besitzen eine doppelte Bedeutung. Sie gelten einerseits als Attribut des Schutzpatrons, dem hl. Jakob des Älteren und andererseits stehen sie für die zahlreichen Funde (vorgeschichtliche Versteinerungen - Ammoniten) im Ortsbereich English: „Vert, three shells Argent in ratio 2:1.“
The arms were officially granted on June 2nd, 1955. The arms show three shells, first as a symbol for the patron saint, St. James, and second as a symbol for the fossilised shells that can be found in the municipality. The colour green is taken as a canting element, loh meaning forest. |
