Deutsch: Bischofsstab und Gans sind Attribute des heiligen Martin und verweisen auf das Patrozinium der Pfarrkirche. Mehring gehört zu den ältesten Pfarreien des Bistums Passau. Eine Martinskirche ist schon Anfang des 9. Jahrhunderts nachweisbar. Der Mohrenkopf mit roter Kopfbedeckung ist redende Figur aus dem Wappen der Mitte des 14. Jahrhunderts ausgestorbenen ortsadligen Familie der Moringer, die wohl schon im 8. Jahrhundert in Mehring ansässig war. Der Mohr redet auch für den Gemeindenamen, der schon 788 als Moringen erstmals urkundlich belegt ist. Die Feldtingierung in Rot und Silber erinnert an die engen Beziehungen zur Zisterzienserabtei Raitenhaslach, die den rot-weiß geschachten, so genannten Zisterzienserbalken im Wappen führte und als bedeutendste Grundherrschaft bis in das 18. Jahrhundert eine wichtige Rolle in der Gemeinde spielte. |
