Das in der Literatur beschriebene Arkadien, das geprägt wurde von der Vorstellung der Dichter und Maler als einer paradiesisch anmutenden Idylle, in der die Menschen als glückliche Hirten im Einklang mit der Natur leben können, hat nichts zu tun mit weiten Landstrichen in Griechenland oder Italien, deren Trockenheit nur karges Wachstum erlaubt.
