Chiu is a romanization of various Chinese surnames, based on different varieties of Chinese. It may correspond to the surnames spelled in the following ways in Mandarin pinyin:
- Zhào (趙) or Zhāo (招), from the Cantonese pronunciation[1]
- Zhāng (張, 章), from the Hokkien pronunciation; more commonly spelled Teoh or Teo
- Zhōu (周), from the Hokkien pronunciation
- Qiū (丘, 秋, 邱) or Qiú (裘, 仇), from a variant of the Mandarin Wade–Giles spelling Ch'iu[1]
- Jiù (就), from the Mandarin Wade–Giles spelling
