The chalaza (/kəˈleɪzə/; from Ancient Greek χάλαζα (khálaza) 'hailstone'; pl.: chalazas or chalazae /kəˈleɪzi/) is a structure inside bird eggs and plant ovules. It attaches or suspends the yolk or nucellus within the larger structure.
