Blatnice lies approximately 17 kilometres (11 mi) west of Plzeň and 100 kilometres (62 mi) south-west of Prague.
The name is derived from Czech word bláto (i.e. 'mud').[2]
The first written mention of Blatnice is from 1379.[2]
Blatnice was annexed to Nazi Germany in 1938 and administered as part of the Reichsgau Sudetenland. After World War II, the German-speaking population was expelled.
