The team earned the 2010–11 Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) regular season championship and advanced to the Frozen Four of the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament. Following the CCHA season, the team announced that they intended to move from the CCHA to the newly formed Big Ten Conference Hockey League in 2013.
