The main source on this famous torso of this Petubastis I comes from this invaluable on-line paper in the Metropolitan Museum Journal 40 (2005) article titled "The Gulbenkian Torso of King Pedubaste: Investigations into Egyptian Large Bronze Statuary" by by Marsha Hill & Deborah Schorsch. The paper is here in English. (That is if you wish to create a small paragraph on this object in Petubastis I's article) The article is big and takes about 30-45 seconds to open but its worth the read and very interesting. The authors speculate the king here could be another Pedubast in the Delta--which is possible--but Pedubast I had supporters in the 22nd Tanite Dynasty who controlled Lower Egypt at that time. The Tanite king Sheshonq III's son Pashedbast B even built a door to Pylon X at Karnak and he dated it to Pedubast I as I wrote in footnote #2 and #3 in the english wiki article of Pedubast I (the footnoted source is Kenneth Kitchen's TIPE book & David Aston's JEA 75, 1989 paper) This cannot be an accident on Pashedbast B's part. Presumably Sheshonq III indirectly supports the Pedubast faction at Karnak.
A Petubastis II would have been a local city king with few resources to built this magnificient object while Petubastis III, I think, dates to the Assyrian period. Regards, Leoboudv --96.55.224.163 20:27, 27. Mai 2011 (CEST)
