Nach einer Berechnung von 2013 leben dort etwa 13.757 Einwohner, das Ergebnis der letzten veröffentlichten Volkszählung von 2003 betrug 11.411.[1]

Nach einer Erhebung von 1993[2] (damalige Volkszählung) stellt die größte Bevölkerungsgruppe die der Jola mit einem Anteil von rund fünf Zehnteln, gefolgt von den Mandinka und den Fula. Die Verteilung im Detail: 29,5 % Mandinka, 9,6 % Fula, 1,2 % Wolof, 50,5 % Jola, 0,5 % Serahule, 1,2 % Serer, 0 % Aku, 5,8 % Manjago, 0,3 % Bambara und 1,5 % andere Ethnien.
