Der Dras entspringt im Himalaya nördlich des Zoji-La-Passes. Er wird von mehreren Gletschern, darunter dem Machoi-Gletscher, gespeist. Die Fernstraße Srinagar–Leh trifft östlich des Zoji-La-Passes auf das Flusstal des Dras und folgt dem Flusslauf. Der Dras fließt in überwiegend nordöstlicher Richtung durch das Gebirge. Er passiert die gleichnamige Ortschaft Dras. 12 km oberhalb der Mündung trifft der Shingo, der wichtigste Nebenfluss des Dras, von links auf den Fluss. Der Dras mündet schließlich 5 km nördlich des Distrikthauptorts Kargil in den Suru, ein linker Nebenfluss des oberen Indus. Der Dras hat eine Länge von 86 km. Der mittlere Abfluss beträgt 212 m³/s.
