Lichterfelde West is the western part of Lichterfelde in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf borough of Berlin. It is bordered by Dahlem, Zehlendorf and Steglitz and seperated from eastern Lichterfelde by the Teltowkanal. Lichterfelde West is compromised of the Villenkolonie Lichterfelde West and the Schweizer Viertel.
Lichterfelde West is one of the German capital's most affluent neighborhoods, next to Dahlem and Grunewald. The historic Villenkolonie with it's mansions and tree-lined streets, as well as the Berlin Botanical Garden, Schlosspark Lichterfelde and the Charité Hospital's Benjamin Franklin Campus, are all located in the area. The former prussian cadet academy is now home to the German federal state archives, while another former cadet school is home to a branch of the German National Intelligence Service Bundesnachrichtendienst. Free University of Berlin will develop a business and innovation center in Lichterfelde West close to the university's main campus.
