Komponent (nejstarší užití ve slově pornografický – Jaroslav Vrchlický, Nové studie z roku 1897[1]) užívaný též jako substantivum (nejstarší takové užití je z roku 1988[2]) zkrácením ze slova pornografie přejatého z francouzštiny, jež vychází z francouzského pornographe („pisatel obscénních článků“) odvozeného z řeckého πορνογράφος téhož významu složeného z πόρνη (pórnē, „nevěstka, kněžka“) a γράφειν (grafein, „psát“).[3]
