DeskripsyonCollapsed Kinzua Bridge.jpg |
Remnants of the Kinzua Viaduct, a railroad bridge spanning the gorge of Kinzua Creek, McKean County. It was the tallest and longest bridge of its kind when it was built in the early 1880s. Its history is discussed here. A tornado collapsed a large section of the structurally weak bridge in 2003. The damage wasn't confined to the bridge; much of the surrounding forest was leveled. A revitalization project is set to begin; however, the bridge will not be rebuilt. |
