Ала́ны (стар.-грэч.: Ἀλανοί, лац.: Alani, Halani) — качавыя іранамоўныя плямёны скіфа-сармацкага паходжання, у пісьмовых крыніцах згадваюцца з I стагоддзя н.э. — часу іх з'яўлення ў Прыазоўі і Перадкаўказзі.
Частка аланаў з канца IV стагоддзя прыняла ўдзел у Вялікім перасяленні народаў, у той час як астатнія перайшлі да аселасці на тэрыторыях, якія прылягаюць да перадгор'яў Каўказа. Племянны саюз аланаў стаў асновай аб'яднання аланскіх і мясцовых каўказскіх плямёнаў, вядомага пад назвай Аланія, і ўтварэння ў цэнтральным Перадкаўказзі раннефеадальнай дзяржавы, якая праіснавала да татара-мангольскага нашэсця.
Татара-манголы, якія разграмілі Аланію і захапілі да канца 1230-х гадоў урадлівыя раўнінныя раёны Перадкаўказзя, вымусілі ацалелых аланаў хавацца ў гарах Цэнтральнага Каўказа і ў Закаўказзі. Там яны захаваліся ў форме асецінаў, з меркаваным уплывам мясцовых плямёнаў[1][2][3][4]. Пэўную ролю аланы адыгралі ў этнагенезе і культуры і іншых народаў Паўночнага Каўказа[2].
