La provincia de Ifni foi una provincia española d'ultramar que s'estendía nun pequeñu territoriu colonial asitiáu na mariña occidental del actual Marruecos en redol a la ciudá de Sidi Ifni. Esistió como tal ente 1958 y 1969, anque yá dende 1958 —a raigañu del desenllaz de la Guerra d'Ifni— el control de facto per parte d'España de la mayor parte del territoriu viose sustancialmente amenorgáu; llindándose este a la ciudá de Sidi Ifni y la so contorna.

El 28 d'abril de 1860 el sultán de Marruecos reconoció los derechos españoles sobre Santa Cruz de la Mar Pequeña,[2] una antigua plaza española na mariña atlántica del norte d'África que la so fundación por Diego d'Herrera remontar a 1476.[3] Una comisión hispanu-marroquina favorecida pola Real Academia de la Historia determinó equivocadamente en 1878 l'ancón de Uad Ifni como l'allugamientu de Santa Cruz de la Mar Pequeña;[4] esta postrera na actualidá tender a asitiar en Puertu Cansáu, otru puntu de la mariña atlántica del Magreb.[3] España nun dar# en la ocupación de la colonia de Ifni hasta 1934. El territoriu de Ifni atopábase subdividíu nos distritos Centro (con capital en Sidi Ifni), Norte (con capital en Tiugsa), y Sur (con capital en Telata de Isbuia).[5] Ente 1946 y 1958 Ifni formó parte del África Occidental Española (embrivida como AOE, el conxuntu de colonies y protectoraos d'España na parte occidental del continente africanu), xunto a Cabu Juby, Saguia el Hamra y Río de Oro.[6][7][8] Ente 1957 y 1958 llibróse la Guerra d'Ifni ente fuercies franco-españoles y l'Exércitu de Lliberación marroquina.
sumir l'AOE, Ifni constituyóse'l 10 de xineru de 1958 nuna provincia d'ultramar,[6] nel marcu según dellos académicos de «una campaña de llexitimación histórica de la presencia colonial española n'África».[9] Tres la guerra, España solo pudo caltener control efectivu de facto sobre'l perímetru de la ciudá de Sidi Ifni.[10] A diferencia del casu de los territorios d'El Sáḥara Occidental, yá dende 1963 la dictadura amosóse abierta a la descolonización del territoriu y entrega al Marruecos gobernáu pol monarca Hassan II.[11] En 1965 el resolución 2072 de la Organización de les Naciones Xuníes convidó a España a la descolonización de los territorios de Sáḥara Occidental y de Ifni.[12] El Tratáu de Fez del 4 de xineru de 1969,[13] que secundaron les cortes franquistes, favoreció la retrocesión de Ifni y el 30 de xunu de 1969 Marruecos asumió la posesión del territoriu.[14]
