Emtrisitabien ("FTC", handelsnaam Emtriva), behoort aan die klas teenretrovirale middels bekend as nukleosied analoog trutranskriptase remmers (NRTIs), wat die ensiem trutranskriptase blokkeer, 'n ensiem wat onmisbaar is vir virusvoortplanting.
Dit word in kombinasie gebruik vir die behandeling van MIV-infeksie in volwassenes en kinders. Emtrisitabien is beskikbaar as 'n vasgestelde 200 mg dosis in kombinasie met 300 mg tenofovir in 'n produk genaamd Truvada asook die nuutste formulering genaamd Atripla, 'n drie-in-een efavirens/emtrisitabien/tenofovirtablet (sterkte 600/200/300mg), vir 'n eenmaal-per-dag dosering teen MIV.
Emtrisitabien is ontdek deur dokters Dennis Liotta, Raymond Schinazi en Woo-Baeg Choi van Emory Universiteit, wat dit gelisensieer het aan Triangle Pharmaceuticals in 1996.[1] Triangle Pharmaceuticals is in 2003 deur Gilead Sciences oorgeneem, wat die ontwikkeling voltooi het en die produk as Emtriva bemark.
