User talk:Quoting mungo

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! It's good to see you taking an interest in our policy pages, such as Wikipedia:How to edit a page. However, there is a reason that eth and thorn were not included in the list of special characters. Check out Wikipedia:Special characters, towards the bottom where it says "Unsafe characters." I must admit, I am not too sure why they are considered unsafe. Probably because they may not render correctly in some browsers. Anyway, the general policy seems to be to avoid them (and use substitutes such as "d", "dh" or "th"), so I have removed them from Wikipedia:How to edit a page. Let me know if you think we should reconsider our policy of considering them unsafe, and maybe we can re-insert them. Thanks! -- Wapcaplet 18:05 22 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- My wrong, I had not seen the reference to the special characters page, and have previously seen eth and thorn left out out of ignorance. Must admit I find it strange that some far weirder characters are included in standard ASCII.
