The stable officially formed in July 2021 after a feud between Roman Reigns—managed by Paul Heyman—and his cousin Jey Uso in late 2020, with Jey's brother Jimmy Uso getting involved after returning from an injury. The three then formed The Bloodline with Heyman as their manager. Despite not being a member of the Anoaʻi family, Sami Zayn joined as an honorary member in May 2022. Solo Sikoa then joined that September. Zayn left in January 2023 followed by Jey in June after dissension with Reigns. Jimmy also briefly left right before Jey but rejoined in September. In February 2024 during the build up to WrestleMania XL, The Rock officially joined the group, but following the event in April, both Reigns and Rock took an indefinite hiatus, with Sikoa becoming the acting leader. Tama Tonga then joined upon his WWE debut right after WrestleMania and helped Sikoa kick Jimmy out of the group. At Backlash France the following month, Tonga Loa returned to the company and joined The Bloodline, with Jacob Fatu being added upon his debut in June. Heyman was then kicked out a week later for not acknowledging Sikoa as the Tribal Chief.
From April 2022 until April 2024, Reigns was promoted as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, as he simultaneously held both the WWE and Universal championships in his fourth and second respective reigns, having the longest reign for the latter before losing the Undisputed title at WrestleMania XL. He took on the nicknames "Tribal Chief" and "Head of the Table" in reference to his role as the leader of the family. From May 2022 until April 2023, The Usos (Jey and Jimmy), were promoted as the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions until they lost their titles at WrestleMania 39, as they simultaneously held both the Raw and SmackDown tag titles in their third and fifth respective reigns, having the longest reign and the longest male tag team title reign in WWE history for the latter. Jey also won the 2021 André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, while Sikoa briefly held the NXT North American Championship shortly after he joined the group. After Sikoa became the acting leader in April 2024 following Reigns's hiatus, Sikoa took on the nicknames of "Tribal Chief" and "Head of the Table".
