Sovetsky District (Russian: Сове́тский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[6] district (raion), one of the thirty-eight in Saratov Oblast, Russia. It is located in the center of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,400 square kilometers (540 sq mi).[3] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Stepnoye.[2] Population: 28,012 (2010 Census);[4] 30,195 (2002 Census);[9] 28,936 (1989 Soviet census).[10] The population of Stepnoye accounts for 46.9% of the district's total population.[4]
