The Sardinians,[6] or Sards[7][8] (Sardinian: Sardos or Sardus; Italian and Sassarese: Sardi; Gallurese: Saldi), are an Italic Romance language-speaking[9] ethnic group native to Sardinia,[10][11][12][13][14][15] from which the western Mediterranean island and autonomous region of Italy derives its name.[6][16]
