Summary
DescriptionSharp-Hughes Tool Company, 1915.jpg |
English: Sharp-Hughes Tool Company, later renamed just Hughes Tool Company, at its manufacturing building at the intersection of Second and Girard Streets, Houston, Texas. It moved there in 1912.
Prior to the renovation of the red-brick gothic building to fit Sharp-Hughes's needs for manufacturing two-bit rotary drills, it served as a Armour and Company meatpacking plant. Today, the site of the building (now demolished) is on the campus of University of Houston–Downtown), where an unlabeled outdoor sculpture of an drill bit marks the approximate former location of the building (the sculpture being several hundred feet southeast of the actual location on the southeast end of the Jesse H. Jones Student Life Center, where as the building was located on the opposite, northwest end of the Center). |
