English: Newport Transporter Bridge Built in 1906 to solve the problem of bridging a navigable river. One of three surviving bridges of its kind in the UK. The others are at Teesside (NZ5021) and Warrington (SJ5987, now disused). Today, it is the longest bridge of its kind in the world, spanning 325m. On special days, the public are allowed to climb up the pylons and cross the river over the span. |
