Summary
DescriptionEntrance to Mitropa Restaurant, Bahnhof Schonebeck-Salzelmen, with salt production mural. DDR May 1990 (5063526372).jpg |
Salt production ceased here in 1972. The mural depitcs the history of Salt production and the opening of the Spa here. Behind the door, a Deutsche Reichsbahn Mitropa Restaurant which was open and serving Magdeburger Bier. Is this mural still here? Help please. The history of Bad Salzelmen and its salt production and spa are found on the wikipedia page in German. As might be made out on the right, here in 1802 was the first Solheilbad (saline health spa) in Germany , founded by Johann WIlhelm Tolberg who died here in 1831. Tolberg had come here as a doctor to the Royal Prussian Saltworks and had discovered in 1800 the health giving properties of brine. |
