Operation measuring the failure of two entities to commute / From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is about the mathematical concept. For the electrical component, see Commutator (electric). For the relation between canonical conjugate entities, see Canonical commutation relation. For other uses, see Commutation.
In mathematics, the commutator gives an indication of the extent to which a certain binary operation fails to be commutative. There are different definitions used in group theory and ring theory.
