Alcaraz, Djokovic, and Daniil Medvedev were in contention for the men's singles No. 1 ranking. Alcaraz retained the No. 1 ranking with his victory,[2][3] and became the first player to qualify for the year-end championships.[4]
For the first time since Lleyton Hewitt in 2002, the top seed and the winner of the event was not a member of the Big Four. Stan Wawrinka was attempting to complete the career Grand Slam, but was defeated by Djokovic in the third round.
This tournament marked the final Wimbledon singles appearance of two-time champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist, and former world No. 1 Andy Murray. He lost in the second round to Stefanos Tsitsipas.
