Defending champion Gustavo Kuerten defeated Àlex Corretja in the final, 6–7(3–7), 7–5, 6–2, 6–0 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2001 French Open.[1] It was his third French Open title and his third and last major title overall. Kuerten saved a match point en route to the title, against Michael Russell in the fourth round.
