Hello and welcome to Wikipedia!
Here are some tips to help you get started:
- Try the Tutorial, and feel free to experiment in the test area.
- If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk
- Eventually, you might want to read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- Remember Wikipedia:Neutral point of view
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck!
P.S. One last helpful hint. To sign your posts like I did above (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).
Hi Santap - I've noticed that the images you recently uploaded all appear to be copyright to the owner(s) of www.medhahari.com. If you have permission from the copyright holder for Wikipedia to use these images, please let us know here. On the other hand, if you're the owner of that site and attempting to use Wikipedia to promote it, please note that this not permitted by Wikipedia policy. It would be great, however, if you could contribute a few articles on Indian dance - we really need more information about dance subjects, especially non-Western ones. - Hi again!
- 1. When communicating with other users, please do so on their talk page, not their user page.
- 2. Thanks for pointing out that the images are free for non-commercial use. This still creates a problem for Wikipedia, though, because under the terms of our GFDL, our content is free for anyone to use, even for any commercial purpose that they like. I've moved the discussion to Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images and will remove the "possible infringement" notices.
- 3. Please note for the future that it's not correct to simply blank a section of the "Copyright problems" page - if you disagree with a listing there, please make a remark on the page to that effect.
- Cheers --Rlandmann 05:45, 23 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Hi - I've left a reply on the Unfree Images page. The normal course of events with any question about content on Wikipedia is never to remove a comment. They remain in place until the issue is dealt with and then archived for the future.
The key point here is that Wikipedia has to be able to allow anyone to use any of our content for whatever purpose they want to use it for - including making money out of it. The site owner's permission so far doesn't allow for that use, meaning that Wikipedia cannot offer those images. If, on the other hand, she's happy to give written permission for Wikipedia to allow users to make money from her images if they want to, then everything's OK.
I hope I've explained this well - it's a tricky concept! --Rlandmann 23:14, 24 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- "I guess the issue has already been dealt with, hasn't it?" Yes, pretty much. In 15 days after the image's original listing, one of the admins looking after the page (ie, October 7) will review the comments made and will archive them. Since the copyright holder has apparently altered the conditions of use for those images, the issue will simply be archived without any further action being taken.
- Sorry to ask so directly - are you the owner or webmaster of that website? --Rlandmann 02:19, 25 Sep 2004 (UTC)
