English: The Minnie E. Young House at 19 East 54th Street between Madison and Fifth Avenues in the Midtown neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, was built in 1899-1900 and was designed by Hiss & Weekes in the Renaissance Revival style. The townhouse was built for Minnie E. Young, one of the five siblings who inherited money from their uncle, Lewis Ginter founder of the American Tobacco Company. Young was the widow of stockbroker Albert Young of the firm Arents & Young.
The building, with its 40-foot wide facade of granite and large entrance portico, and was praised at the time for its simplicity, proportions, and dignity. (Source: "Minnie E. Young House Designation Report") |
